FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are Assisted Living Facilities?

Assisted Living is for people who like to live as independently as possible,
do not need constant care, but who need some assistance with daily activities
like dressing, housekeeping or cooking.

How do I know what level of care is needed?

We will speak with you over the phone and discuss the reasons you are
considering a Senior housing option.  In addition, we will ask you to fill out
a questionnaire that will guide us in determining what type of facility
will best meet your budget and needs.

How does Senior Living Alternatives decide on which facilities to recommend?

We will take the information you provide and create a list of facilities
we believe will best meet your budget and needs.  After that, we will
make arrangements to visit the facilities with you so you can get a
feel for them and the services they offer.

What are Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly?

Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) is a category of senior
housing that includes “Assisted Living” and “Board and Care” homes.
These types of facilities provide a somewhat higher level of care than for folks
who live in an “Independent Living” community or home.

Are Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly regulated?

Yes.  In California, these types of facilities are inspected,
regulated and licensed by the Community Care Division of the
Department of Social Services.

What type of training do the staff and caregivers have?

All caregivers are trained in First Aid.  Beyond that, depending on the
types of care provided by a facility, the State of California may have requirements
related to specific training, skills, standards and licensing requirements.

What is the cost for the various types of Senior housing?

Costs vary depending on location, type of room, services and level of care.
When we talk with you and identify the best type of facility,
we will be able to give you an idea of the costs.

How soon can we move in?

If there is availability, it can be as soon as the next day if all
necessary forms are completed.  We will help you plan your move and
make suggestions to make it as smooth as possible.
